Lula Elzy

Lula Elzy, Artistic Director/Choreographer
Lula Elzy is a distinguished choreographer, director, educator and accomplished modern dancer. She is the founder and artistic director of the Lula Elzy New Orleans Dance Theatre. 

Ms. Elzy is the recipient of the Disney Channel American Teacher Award and the Presidential Scholars Distinguished Teachers Award in the Performing Arts. Other honors bestowed on Elzy include a Kennedy Center for the Arts Artist/Teacher Fellowship and inclusion in Mirabella magazine's “1,000 Most Influential Women in America.” She was selected as one of the New Orleans Public School Teachers of the Year, received the New Orleans Mayor's Arts Award, the Delta Sigma Theta Award in the Arts, Dance Fellowship Awards from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and the Louisiana Division of the Arts, and the Choreographers Choice Award given by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre. Pursuing her passion for arts in education, Ms. Elzy has taught for numerous secondary school and university-level programs ,she also taught at  New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, a public performing arts high school where she also served as chairperson of the Dance Department.

Ms. Elzy toured the former Soviet Union as choreographer for "Porgy and Bess,” and the former West Germany with German-government-sponsored productions of "West Side Story" and "Cabaret.” She also choreographed a dance video with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, that was featured in a Japanese cultural education series. Elzy has appeared in numerous TV commercials; her film credits include HBO Series "Treme", "Angel Heart," "Interview with a Vampire" “Who Do You Love?” as well as CBS movie of the week "Love and Curses," the University of New Orleans independent film "The Willow Paris.

Presently Ms. Elzy also serve as Dance Consultant  for the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans and is an  artist in resident  Choreographer for the Muse Machine in Dayton Ohio, having worked with Directors Nat Horne, Rufus Bonds jr, and Joe Deer.

Valerie Concha, Dance Consultant (Ballet Mistress/Choreographer)
Ms. Concha was the founder and artistic director of the New Orleans Ballet Foundation, the first New Orleans regional Ballet Company. She was a soloist with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo which toured the U.S., Europe, Canada, and South and Central America. She choreographed for the New Orleans Opera, the San Antonio Opera, and conducted master classes for the International Ballet School at Carnegie Hall in New York, and the National Academy of Ballet in Chicago. She staged many ballets for civic and regional companies. Ms. Concha began her training with Lelia Haller in New Orleans and continued her studies with Vincenzo Celli, Frederic Franklin and Alexandra Danilova in New York. She taught at the New Orleans Dance Academy, the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, Delgado College, and coached the New Orleans Ballet Ensemble in New Orleans. For the past 15 years, she has been one of the choreographers and Ballet Mistress for the Lula Elzy New Orleans Dance Theatre’s productions of “Nutcracker Swing,” “Elijah Rock,” “The New Orleans Suite,” “Dance Journey to the Crucifixion,” and many other annual company presentations. She now serves in the capacity as our Dance Consultant.

Valerie Concha
Kesha McKey

Kesha McKey, Assistant Rehearsal Director
Kesha McKey is an energetic and versatile performer/instructor, a native of New Orleans, and a
graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana. Inspired at a very young age by stage performances, Kesha began to study dance at various institutions in the New Orleans area such as the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Tulane University and Loyola University. She received scholarships to study at Jacob’s Pillow, the Musical Theatre Project of Tampa, and Celebration Barn Theater where she studied with Lynn Simonson, Anne Reinking, Chet Walker, Fred Garbo and Luigi. Kesha continued to develop her talent as a dancer and also began to flourish as a singer, actress and choreographer. She began performing with several dance companies/groups in the New Orleans area as a featured dancer/singer for various productions, including television and film. She has worked closely with Lula Elzy and Nat Horne of the Nat Horne Musical Theatre as a choreography assistant for musical and dance productions at the Muse Machine in Dayton, Ohio. Currently, Kesha is teaching dance in the Baton Rouge area with the Mid-City Dance Project. She is also a featured dancer/singer and the assistant rehearsal director for the Lula Elzy Dance Theatre.

Kevin Gaudin, Assistant Rehearsal Director
Kevin Michael Gaudin is a native New Orleanian who attributes much of his creative diversity to the culturally rich heritage of his hometown. He attended the prestigious performing arts high school - The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). In college, he appeared in productions ranging from “Hamlet” to “Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope.” He began his professional dance career with the New Orleans Contemporary Dance Company and currently works as a resident choreographer and soloist with The Lula Elzy Dance Theatre. He has performed as a guest artist and soloist with numerous dance companies to include: The Rod Rogers Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico, The Charles Moore Dance Theatre, Sounds in Motion, Errol Grimes Dance Group, and The Danny Sloan Dance Company. In addition, he has worked with many of today’s celebrated choreographers including Dianne McIntyre, Eleo Pomare, Robert Longbottom, Lynn Taylor Corbett, and the late Michael Peters, plus with many accomplished musicians such as Ellis Marsalis, Frank Owens, and Oscar Brown Jr. He made his Broadway debut in the smash hit musical, “Swing.”He has appeared as a featured dancer on national and international television including David Wolper’s production “Salute to Lady Liberty,” ESPN ESPY Awards, and the TBS documentary, “Ark of the Spirit”, with Avery Brooks. He has also worked as an assistant to the choreographer on the major motion picture, “Beloved.” He has appeared in variety shows and theatrical events with such artists as Miriam Makeba, Ruby Dee, Odetta, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Mercedes Ellington, and Maurice Hines.
