Since its founding in 1991, the award-winning Lula Elzy New Orleans Dance Theatre has produced first-rate original works that combine many facets of dance and music. These works personalize the Black Cultural Experience and create genuine social awareness in the process. The company strives to present a multi-cultural interpretation of dance and music to create innovative new works and has collaborated with many jazz musicians/composers, playwrights and vocalists. Its goal is to personalize cultural awareness and social development to create new dances and the new dancer - an artist committed to the beauty of the dance - a Messenger of the Music. LEDT members come from a diversity of cultural and dance backgrounds, and have toured the United States and Europe. The theme and form of their work is purposely non-traditional…and experience with music and all styles of dance - classical, modern, jazz, and tap.
